When I put together these roundups, I look for patterns in the news we've shared over the past week, as well as both my favorite articles and the most popular posts among our social media audience. This week, I had fun combining all of the above! From geography to technology, read on for three "cool" industry stories.
Datacenter Dynamics | I know, the article has nothing to do with how cold Iceland gets – or how cool the northern lights are – but I couldn’t resist. Max Smolaks’ summary of the safest – and least safe – places to build a data center is still an interesting quick read. Can you guess who filled out the rest of the top 10? Click through to find out.
CIO Today | What’s cool about AI? Well, lots of stuff, but in this case it’s how Google is using their DeepMind artificial intelligence to predict cooling needs in the data center in order to increase efficiency. So far, they’ve cut cooling unit energy use by 40%, without any changes to the data center infrastructure! Click through to read Dan Heilman’s explanation of how they did it, and for hints at where AI might show up next.
CRN | Finally, here’s a reprise of our most popular social media post this week! Mark Haranas pulled together this list of ten vendors/products in the software-defined networking space. Ranging from Cisco ACI to Big Switch Networks Big Cloud Fabric, his “top 10” also includes a couple of newcomers like Barefoot Networks’ Barefoot Tofino programmable switch platform. Take a look, and let me know which one is your favorite!
