Last week, we were delighted to exhibit at ITEXPO East 2016, where Fiber Mountain was honored with a “Best Service Provider Solution” award for our CrossCage Plus automated cross connect solution for multi-tenant colocation data centers!
You can read all about the new solution, which makes use of our layer 1 SDN switching and Glass Core infrastructure, in Jonathan Reeves’ newest blog post. You can also read coverage of the announcement here.
PCWorld | In other recent news, Microsoft is making waves with their newest data center concept. Every time I see a new article pop up, I start hearing Disney’s “Under the Sea,” but I’ll spare you my attempts at alternate lyrics involving data centers. Instead, here’s the first coverage that caught my eye on the ocean-floor data center capsules of Project Natick, from Ian Paul at PCWorld.
ZDNet | In one of our most popular tweets this week, Ken Hess of ZDNet reports on the new hyper-converged, all-flash solution for remote office or branch office (ROBO) data center needs. Whether you skim the written article or listen to the full 17-minute podcast interview, it’s an interesting piece.
TechTarget | Robert Gates discusses the results of the recently published “2016 Cost of Data Center Outages Report” from the Ponemon Institute and Emerson Network Power. While their results are striking – estimating the average cost of a minute of downtime at $8,851 – he argues that the per-minute cost is less relevant than the full cycle cost of an outage, since even a few seconds of downtime can be disastrous depending on the industry and which systems are effected.
I'll end with an invitation to subscribe for email updates - just enter your email address in the sidebar form to the right, and you'll never miss a Fiber Mountain blog post again!
